We offer you Paulette Quinson (1899-1984) Marseille Ceramic fish dish signed 55x26 cm. Paulette Quinson (30.01.1899-2.05.1984) Marseille. Seventh of nine children Paulette Quinson arrives in a very well-off family but which will be marked by misfortune. She loses her father aged 34, the war takes away from her 2 brothers and 2 future brothers-in-law. She will remain single like 3 of her sisters. Paulette despite the bourgeois tradition of the time, decides to study "fine arts" to satisfy her artistic aspirations. Graduated, after a stint in the Marseille earthenware factory of Sain-Jean-du-Désert, she buys a kiln in 1924 and installs it in a small workshop rue Picpus. Passionate about her profession, she makes contacts with colleagues from Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. The war did not slow the artist's growth: the Maison Maire, known for the quality of the items offered for sale, regularly placed orders with her. The ladies of the bourgeoisie acquired them both to decorate their dining rooms and to set them on their ceremonial tables. In 1944, Paulette, assured of success, rented a bright and spacious place near Place Castellane. The artist trained many students, including the Figuères couple, who remained her collaborators until they moved to the Pointe Rouge district in 1952. Paulette, for her part, did not limit herself to creating Vieux-Moustiers; she also replicated the productions of Veuve Perrin, Saint-Jean-du-Désert, Strasbourg, and Chinese decors. She signed her name to the pieces she designed and distinguished copies of old ones with a sketch of a finch, which is understandable since this is the French translation of the Provençal "quinson." Her career was long, and it was only in 1983 that she sold her studio. The buyer went bankrupt the following year, when the artist died. Perfect condition.
