Superb piece of furniture with a penetrating patina! This is a 19th century Louis Philippe secretary, imitating a semainier. It is entirely in walnut veneer. It is in very good condition, no lack of veneer, no lack of beading or anything else. The first top drawer opens normally, with its thick solid wood beading on the sides, its elegant veneer work and its perfectly functional original lock and key. The same goes for the 3 bottom drawers (they all open with the same key) but the three above actually form a secretary flap that opens with its original lock and key. This reveals a sort of small amphitheater of beautiful wood where there are three original drawers and a beautiful storage space above. The top is covered with its beautiful green leather stamped with gilded iron around the edge. It is held in place by the two thick brass hoops that hold it. The whole thing is solid, even if it is not recommended to lean on it with all your weight. Secretaries were made for writing, but they were not desks. Only quick, shorter notes were written on them. They were often found in entrances or living rooms. Ours features sumptuous fluted uprights, finished with two front legs carved in wood, truly elegant and finely crafted. The play of strips and wood contrasts creates a real visual dynamic, reinforced by its beautiful overall proportions. The sides are veneered in walnut and form asymmetrical bevels. Some signs of wear here and there, but all minimal. It is in very good overall condition. H: 145 cm. W: 82 cm. D: 52 cm. The price is firm, thank you.
