Large 18th century oak refectory table, probably originating from France or the Southern Netherlands. The rectangular top is made up of wide solid oak planks and rests on a sturdy base with four turned legs, joined by heavy cross-bars close to the floor. Beneath the top is a decorative scalloped edge. The construction and design are in keeping with traditional refectory tables, which were originally used in monasteries and communal dining areas. The wood has a dark, weathered patina with visible wear and signs of use.
