Art Deco Parisian library showcase
Elegant Art Deco display cabinet from the 1930s or 1940s. The top is adorned with a pediment dressed in floral motifs carved into the wood. It features two glass double doors that open and close easily with the original lock and key, complete with a finely crafted keyhole. The left door locks with the original hook attached below one of the shelves, which hooks onto a screw eye on the inside of the door (see photos). The exterior wood has been cleaned, treated, sanded, and then painted in a warm beige shade (shade "Stirabout" from the Farrow and Ball color chart - professional quality Unikalo paint, biosourced NaƩ range, satin finish, protected by a clear varnish). The interior has been preserved in its raw light wood, which has been cleaned, treated, and sanded, as have the original shelves, which are height-adjustable thanks to a rack system and have been protected with antique wax. A rare piece that will delicately showcase your finest books or most precious objects. Note: This item is an antique sold second-hand and artisanally restored. It naturally shows irregularities as well as signs of age and use. This is precisely what gives it charm and a unique character. Specifically regarding this display cabinet: The wood shows scattered traces of woodworm. As mentioned above, the wood has been treated against wood-eating insects and is now healthy. The bottom of the right door has warped over time, resulting in a slight gap with the left door when closed (see photos). The surface of the furniture shows some irregularities and signs of use related to its long history (see photos). Inside, the color of the wood and shelves is not perfectly uniform (see photos).
