Magnificent brass basin decorated with motifs representing the symbolism of night and dreams. It has a finely ridged wooden handle. Coal basins were used to provide heat. They were made of metal, ceramic or stone and filled with hot embers or coal, then closed with a lid. Their main use was to warm the interior of houses, especially beds on winter evenings.
