Art Deco Haagse School armchair, Netherlands, 1930s. Solid oak frame with straw seat. Very good original condition with only minor wear and tear. Architect C.J. Blaauw first used the term "New Haagse School" (New Hague School) in 1920. Designs from this period, between 1925 and 1940, are a blend of Art Deco, the Arts and Crafts movement and "De Stijl". Characteristic are the symmetrical cubist forms with clean lines combined with subtle details and contrasts.
