A vase from the 1970s, produced by HSG Ząbkowice in Poland, is an example of the architectural synthesis of industrial design and decorativeness from the peak period of mid-century modern. The cylindrical, slender form is made of massive soda glass shaped by pressing. The surface is decorated with a regular, geometric relief of rectangles and squares arranged in a grid. The colour scheme is based on a deep, saturated red with a cool shade, smoothly transitioning to almost black tones at the base. The shiny, glossy surface strongly reflects light, emphasising the thickness of the glass and the depth of the colour. No visible signs of use, chips or repairs – preserved in very good condition, without clear signs of wear. The relief ornament, rhythmic regularity of divisions and the monumentality of the mass give the vase an expression of industrial optimism, typical of Polish design at the end of the PRL era. Its form echoes the era, which sought modernity in glass close to architecture and graphics: the geometric grid seems to quote the urban rhythm of large-panel buildings, and the coolness of the red contrasted with the domestic light of the seventies. This vase seems to say: "You can be an everyday object without losing the boldness of form – and without ceasing to reflect the world in a shiny surface." This vase can be combined with simple, modernist furniture – such as low wooden or veneer tables, upholstered armchairs from the era or geometric shelves. It works well both as a standalone colour accent in minimalist, bright interiors and in eclectic collector arrangements, against raw concrete or dark walls. It is worth combining it with other examples of pressed glass or decorative objects in balanced, saturated colours – then the relief structure and strong shade will play the leading role.
