This dan mask, originally from ivory coast or liberia, is a beautiful representation of african tribal art. Characterized by its elongated face, thin nose, and prominent lips, it embodies the elegance and sobriety typical of traditional dan masks. The perforations on the sides were used to attach plant fibers or textiles, thus integrating the mask into a ceremonial costume. This type of mask was worn during ritual and initiation dances, acting as an intermediary between the spirit world and the world of the living. This hand-carved wooden mask has an old, natural patina, with traces of use that reinforce its authenticity. Approximately 24 cm high, it probably dates from the mid-20th century (circa 1940-1960). It makes a beautiful decorative piece for a tribal art collection or refined ethnic decoration.
