The veins of the travertine are not to be considered defects or breakages but identifying marks of the stone. The porous and pitted surface texture of travertine is a result of the way the mineral deposits form. As the water flows and the calcium carbonate precipitates, air bubbles can become trapped in the mineral layers, leaving behind small holes or pits in the stone. These natural holes can be left unfilled or filled with grout or resin to create a smoother surface. The lamp will be shipped insured in a custom made wooden crate.
