In the context of Dutch modernism from the early 1960s, certain pieces were conceived as true architectural manifestos. This bench in steel and wenge fully fits into this lineage, now complemented by its period cushions. Commissioned specifically by an architect in the early 1960s, it has remained in the same family since — a rare and valuable provenance. Its minimalist structure in brushed steel creates a taut, almost graphic line, supporting a base made of wide planks of solid wenge. The original black leather cushions provide comfort and depth while respecting the modernist spirit. The whole clearly evokes the rational aesthetic developed by Kho Liang Ie: balance of proportions, honesty of materials, and a dialogue between industrial rigor and the warmth of wood. In very good overall condition. The wenge has a rich and even patina. The steel is clean and stable. The leather cushions are period and in perfect condition. With its current dimensions of 200 cm in length, 87 cm in depth, and 73 cm in height, the piece maintains a sculptural presence. A strong work for an architectural interior or a discerning collection.
