Pair of large enamelled earthenware amphoras. Art nouveau. Partitioned floral pattern. Longchamp faïencerie, burgundy. Number 1370. Circa 1900. The production of longchamp's earthenware factory began in 1833. In 1847 the factory employed forty-one workers. In 1964, the company had two hundred and thirty employees and produced four million pieces a year, which were sold mainly in french department stores and up to fifteen per cent internationally (the united states and some twenty other countries). Between 1975 and the end of the 1980s, the takeovers followed and the establishment was bought in 1990 by villeroy-boch before closing its doors for good in 2009.
