Specializing in trade furniture, COSMOS was located, as indicated by the plaque proudly nailed to the pediment, at 3 rue de Grammont, Paris 11th arrondissement. Their high-end, solid wood products are instantly recognizable, thanks in part to their incredible patina and quality. You sometimes come across desks, rarely filing cabinets, but this immense cardboard box... I'd never seen one. Imposing and elegant, it opens with two large oak curtains. The lower one, operated by two brass handles, closes with a key and lock. They slide vertically over a beautiful compartmentalized space. Above, two retractable oak pulls. At the top, under the molded cornice, the curtain reveals 21 drawers with tilting doors. They are raised and then pushed toward the inside of the cabinet to hold them open. The cast iron mechanism is as simple as it is ingenious. The doors are magnificent, thanks to their original label holder and the brass notches that allow you to place your finger on them to close them; they have incredible aesthetic strength. These are the little extras that set this brand apart. The furniture has minor flaws: the upper curtain works perfectly but is a little worn and must be handled with care. It is not broken or detached. One of the doors is missing a small brass notch (out of 21). Two small superficial cracks have been repaired on the left side (see photos). The upper curtain lock is complete, but the key is missing (it was temporarily disabled to allow normal use of the curtain). There are marks, traces, and wear from use for a 130-year-old piece of furniture. However, it remains solid, stable, beautifully crafted, and looks great. A very rare piece that is not presented every day. H: 201 cm. L: 121 cm. D: 39 cm. Drawer space: 32.5 X 33.5 X 9.5 cm. The price is firm, thank you.
