Cradle in curved or bent wood, from the end of the 19th century. Model often attributed to the designer Jacob and Josef Kohn, close to the models of Thonet. There is however no inscription on the cradle. In good condition, some traces of wear on the wood. Bercelonnette model in solid beech, swan neck rod for attaching the veil or mosquito net. Base joined by an oval spacer. Superb healthy piece, high quality and very rare. A model of this cradle is currently present at the MOMA museum in New York (the last photo shows the model exhibited at the museum) Height 200 cm. Length 140 cm. Width 66 cm. I can deliver to Paris and its region. For other regions contact me for a quote. ********************* This elaborate cradle in curved wood reflects the popular Art Nouveau style of the time. Such cradles could be found in elegant bourgeois homes throughout Europe. The bentwood process had been developed by German designer Michael Thonet in the mid-19th century as a way to produce functional and attractive furniture efficiently and economically. In 1867, manufacturer J. & J. Kohn became Thonet's main competitor, opening factories in several international locations.
