Large and elegant antique compote in pressed crystal, featuring a remarkable decoration of alternating partially satin-finished ribs, typical of the major glassworks productions from the late 19th century. This refined piece rests on a finely moulded baluster foot and is distinguished by its delicately scalloped edge, offering a particularly subtle play of light between the clear and satin-finished parts of the crystal. By its design and quality of execution, this compote corresponds to the famous model known as "Alternating Ribs, " created around 1890 and notably produced by the prestigious house of Baccarat. Although unmarked, it exhibits identical stylistic and technical conformity to referenced examples, allowing for a probable attribution to this manufacturer, some of whose pieces were not signed. As both a decorative and utilitarian object, this compote will naturally find its place on an elegant table, a console, or in a display cabinet, to present fruits, sweets, or precious items.
