Jean-Jacques BALITRAN (1930-2024) Portrait of a Woman. Lithograph, signed in pencil at the bottom right and marked E.A. (Artist's Proof) at the bottom left. Dimensions: 76 cm X 56.5 cm (including margins) The artist: Jean-Jacques Balitran. His work lies between figuration and abstraction. He extensively worked on landscapes, particularly those of the Loire and Sologne, but also on female figures, nudes, and floral compositions. His painting is often described as being close to abstraction without completely abandoning the subject. Like most of his works, this lithograph is therefore situated between figuration and abstraction with several perceptible influences (Art Deco, 20th-century modernism…) It depicts a woman in profile, wearing a large black hat, with a lace dress or shawl and decorative leaves in the lower part. The drawing of the lithograph is in very good condition; however, while the lithograph does not show any stains or foxing, its margins are slightly damaged (they are "dog-eared").
