A ceramic pocket tray/ashtray enameled by Aldo Londi, from the Sahara collection. This particular piece was produced by Bitossi Ceramiche and sold in Antwerp (Belgium) by Mathot-Vanhoffelen, one of the most important design shops of the time. The piece still bears the label on the back, proving its early production in the Aldo Londi / Bitossi line and allowing it to be dated to the 1960s or early 1970s. For the collector, this aspect makes the piece a desirable object from the 1960s. The tray features a very deep "Rimini blue" with some green hues, resulting from several layers of glazing, which Bitossi unfortunately cannot achieve in their contemporary pieces, and it has a beautiful sheen. The hand-sculpted patterns of lines, dots, and Xs on the dish create a mid-century modern brutalist aesthetic. The whole is finished in a stunning high-quality glaze. This piece, in excellent vintage condition, will be a lovely addition whether displayed alone or as part of a collection in contemporary or classic decor. A detailed certificate will be provided to the buyer on our gallery's letterhead.
