Very rare "mantis" sofa designed in the Netherlands in the 70's. Designer: Gerard van den Berg. Manufacturer: Montis, Netherlands. Year of design: around 1970. Dimensions: 92p X 170l X 102h. Seat height; 40cm. The sofa, surprisingly light (can be carried by 2 people easily) is entirely covered in soft gray leather, like a skin. It remains in good condition with a very light patina, although the leather, consistent with age and use, remains in good condition. However, there is a natural tear (on a seam) of about 30cm, which can be sewn up by an upholsterer, which justifies the price of the sofa according to its market value. This period design object remains fully functional and elegant, despite. Some signs of age - scuffs, faded finishes, minor upholstery defects and some loose stitching. Montis introduced a revolutionary idea for upholstery known as the jacket technique. The innovation was to allow a leather cover to be slipped around the metal frame. The zip around the sofa is called the "jacket technique" and was invented by Montis to simplify upholstery.
