C&B, or Cassina & Busnelli, was founded in 1966 by Cesare Cassina and Piero Ambrogio Busnelli with the aim of using the most innovative technologies to achieve a larger-scale, less artisanal production. In 1973, Busnelli acquired Cassina's shares and changed the company's name to B&B Italia. Mario Bellini (Milan, 1935), one of the most important designers and architects of the 20th and 21st centuries and creator of iconic furniture pieces, graduated in architecture in 1959 and began working as a freelance architect in the 1960s. Like many other Italian architects, his professional work spans architecture, urban planning, and furniture design. His early international success quickly grew over the first two decades, particularly in the field of design, reaching its peak in 1987 with the significant recognition expressed during a solo retrospective at MoMA in New York, which included 25 of his works in the Permanent Collection.
