Description Gaetano Pesce was an Italian architect, designer, and artist. He was also a professor of architectural design at the Strasbourg Institute of Architecture and Urban Studies and a visiting lecturer at various universities around the world. From 1858 to 1965, he studied industrial design at the Istituto Superiore di Disegno Industriale in Venice. During this period, he joined the artist collective Gruppo N. The group was dedicated to the phenomena of kinetic art and computer art, called Arte Programmata. Pesci first caused an international sensation in 1969 with his inflatable chair "UP." From then on, Gaetanos Pesci's works were always rigorously experimental and characterized by the use of innovative materials. "A certain geometry is complete," says Pesce, for example, with "triangles, rectangles, circles." Traditional materials like stone, iron, metal, and wood were also taboo. They are "witnesses" of another era, according to Pesce. "What isn't finished is the silhouette and the futuristic, flexible materials." Pesce preferred to work with foam, synthetic resin, and felt. This is also the case with the 1986 Feltri armchair offered here. The body and seat are made of wool felt stiffened with synthetic resin. The armchair is now an icon of nonconformism. Like no other, Pesci understood how to merge the disciplines of art and design. His works, often full of humor and irony, are represented in the collections of the world's greatest museums. Gaetano Pesce died in New York in 2024. The originals from the 1980s were labeled, but there are no replicas of this model.
