In this advertisement, you will find the iconic 40/4 stacking chairs, designed by David Rowland in 1964. Known as a major milestone in 20th-century modern design, these chairs were the first truly mass-produced stacking chairs. Their name, 40/4, refers to Rowland's ingenious engineering that allows for 40 chairs to be stacked to a height of just 4 feet. Initially produced by General Fireproofing Co. (GF) in the United States, and later by Howe. The chairs presented here are from GF. They are a grey-brown colour, a kind of dark sand, perfect for spaces requiring natural tones. The chairs are metal on metal - with stainless steel frames and metal seats and backs, making them a very rare find from the very first production. The chairs are in very good vintage condition with some signs of age and use. The price listed is per piece. If you are interested in multiple pieces, please contact for a tailored quote. Upon shipping, you will receive a tracking number. Feel free to ask any additional questions.
