Buffet

This low sideboard is an antique two-part dresser. The people who gave it to me only ever had the bottom part and with just one door. That’s why I’m offering it open. It has been fully restored. I first removed its half-round feet and some strips from the front and side panels. The bottom panel was also removed as it was too damaged by wood-eating insects. I replaced it with a purchased poplar plywood board, which I stained because it was too light. I then stripped and sanded it completely. To fill the holes that allowed for the attachment of the top, I had the idea of using these 1 and 5 cent euro coins, whose copper colour matches very well with the wood tones of this piece and the sizes were appropriate. It is made of solid wood, but its relatively light weight leaves me uncertain about the type of wood it is made from. The interior shelf is original; I sanded it and applied a clear matte oil for work surfaces, as I did for the entire piece. For a more refined finish, I applied a quality, smooth bronze-coloured paper inside the open storage area. The handles have been cleaned and repainted in bronze to match the lock cover, for which I unfortunately do not have the key. Dimensions of the piece: 118 cm wide, 103.5 cm high, and 46 cm deep (top). The drawers measure 44 cm by 35 cm deep and 8 cm high internally.
