Absolutely RARE collector's item with incomparable elegance! Remarkable set of eight fine earthenware presentation plates, featuring a Japonisme-inspired design, produced by the famous English manufacturer Brownfield & Sons (Cobridge, Staffordshire) during the Victorian period (circa 1876–1891). Named "TEXAS", this model embodies the refined aesthetic of the British Aesthetic Movement. The asymmetrical composition combines the precision of a brown transfer print with rich polychrome highlights applied by brush: shades of cobalt blue, vegetal green, and sepia tones. The set is accentuated by a peripheral geometric frieze in brown and a brown border along the rim. The Brownfield & Sons Manufacture. Founded in the Staffordshire region (the historical heart of English ceramics), the Brownfield company is one of the great names in Victorian tableware of the 19th century. The business closed its doors permanently in 1900. Technical quality: The manufacturer was renowned for the durability of its stoneware and the excellence of its printed decorations. International acclaim: Their pieces were awarded at major World Expositions (notably London and Chicago) and were even sold by the famous Tiffany & Co. In the United States. During the 1870s-1880s (the period of the plates), Brownfield excelled in the Aesthetic Movement, characterised by asymmetrical botanical motifs and very elegant Japonisme influences.
