Beautiful objects made by Gérard Hoffman (1917-1967). French painter and ceramist. Born in 1917, Gérard Hofmann began a career as a painter before moving into ceramics. In Vallauris, he worked as a decorator in the Cérenne ceramics workshop in Vallauris. Charles René Neveux is the creator of this factory, which takes its name from the contraction of his company name "Céramique René Neveux". Very active from 1949 to 1959, this workshop, which employed around fifty people, including twenty decorators, produced utilitarian ceramics and unique pieces for France and abroad. From 1959, René Grout, assisted by his son Robert, ran this factory until its closure in 1994. After 1959, Gérard Hofmann left 'Cérenne' and opened his own workshop with his wife Christiane on the Route du Col de Saint Antoine in Vallauris. The couple produced utilitarian ceramics and unique decorative pieces such as scroll vases and mirrors. The production was sold, among other things, in the ceramics store 'La Bergerie', created by Azais Françoise. A specialist in manganese red, Gérard Hofmann produced pieces of remarkable quality. He also worked with Fernand Léger in Biot.
