A faience jug from the famous French manufacture of Creil and Montereau. It is a piece in perfect condition dating from the late 19th century (around 1880). It features an original polychrome decoration illustrated by the artist and caricaturist Froment Richard. Here are the key details regarding this object: The decoration and the artist: Froment Richard is well-known for his series of narrative illustrations on faience (such as the famous Le Parisien service). His drawings are characterised by a style close to caricature and press illustration of the time, depicting expressive characters enhanced with touches of bright colours (here green, yellow, and red ochre). The brown frieze on the neck, adorned with small geometric patterns, is also typical of his creations for the manufacture. The stamp: The mark on the back shows the characteristic ribbon knot marked "Déposé - Creil et Montereau". This type of inked stamp was used by the faience factory during the period of the merger of the two factories in the second half of the 19th century. The theme: The illustrations on the jug humorously evoke scenes from everyday life or popular fables. It is a very beautiful piece, representative of the golden age of fine, humorous faience in France. In excellent condition, with just a few micro cracks on the top of the handle (see photo).
