Armand Claude Etienne BRUGNAUD (1899-1961) Magnificent Oil on Panel depicting Rousset viewed from the lavender fields. Very beautiful colours of Provence with its lavender fields and the warm orange tones of the South of France, one could almost hear the song of the cicadas. In perfect condition, it is surrounded by a simple gilded wooden frame – with minor losses of gilding. It is signed at the bottom left; there is a red pencil inscription on the top of the back: "Rousset viewed from the lavender fields." Armand BRUGNAUD was born in Lapalisse in 1899. Overlooking the hills of Rousset (Northern Alps), with the Montagne Sainte-Victoire in the background (a symbol of Provence, made famous by Cézanne). He studied at the Fine Arts in Lyon, then at the Art Deco in Paris. He obtained the chair of painting at the Cité de Paris in 1925 and the title of professor in 1929. He taught painting at the Musée du Moulin from 1929 to 1960, where he continued to develop his pictorial production. He was appointed curator of the Musée du Moulin in 1932 and kept part of his work at the Centre Pompidou. A retrospective of his work was organised in 1962. An Armand Brugnaud gallery is dedicated to the Musée du Moulin. Very few works are put up for sale on the market; most are found in private collections or museums. Dimensions with frame: Height 60 cm x Width 69 cm x Depth 5 cm Dimensions of the panel alone: Height 46 cm x Width 55 cm
