Art Deco tray, silver-plated brass, OPP Jihlava, Czechoslovakia, 1960s

A round tray from the 1960s, produced by the Czech manufacturer OPP Blansko, made of silver-plated brass and representing the characteristic minimalist, geometric design of the late Art Deco movement. The entire piece is kept in a cool, metallic silver shade with a high gloss – the mirror-like surface, probably made of polished metal or glass, subtly reflects light, emphasizing the purity of the form. The handles, in the form of simple, slightly curved strips, are precisely integrated with the rim, highlighting the fluidity of the lines and the symmetry of the design. The construction is entirely metal, and details such as the connections of the handles, riveted or machine-welded, testify to the industrial precision and high level of craftsmanship of the mid-20th century. The surface shows subtle signs of oxidation and minor scratches, typical for items with several decades of history, but there are no major damages or signs of repair. The condition is very good, with authentic patina and no modern interventions. This tray is like the calm voice of Central European modernism of the 1960s: cool silver reflections and industrial precision combine here in an unpretentious manifesto of modernity. Its metallic surfaces tell of times when geometry and the machine became synonymous with progress, and detail was more a matter of proportion than unnecessary ornamentation.
