Oregon Pine, Oak, Rubber, steel. Exceptional, probably unique, prototype dining table by well known swedish architect and designer Olle Pira. Large 150cm diameter with a minimalist box-frame base. Striking marquetry pattern and large enough to entertain 8 people comfortably. The inventiveness of rubber and wooden veneer stabalises plates etc. A technique seldom ever seen. Good condition with several light scratches and repairs typical of age. Pira was an architect who headed Carl Malmsten's workshop school, then, during his tenure as professor of product design, Pira designed and patented many concepts relating to design and construction sustainability. This table is among a series of designs, "Marine accents", based around utility objects present at his weekend lake house. This table called Däcket is a word play between deck and tyre and was purchased from the Pira estate. This impressive table is a rare piece of swedish design history.
