This elegant antique French chest of drawers in elm, also known as a commode, dates from the mid to late 19th century. Made primarily of solid elm wood and complemented by an oak structure, the piece features a rich and expressive grain with a warm natural patina. The commode is topped with a striking black marble slab with subtle grey veining, offering both durability and visual contrast. It has five spacious drawers providing ample storage space. Four of the drawers are fitted with functional locks and come with a key. The bottom drawer opens from underneath, a practical detail characteristic of the period. The piece rests on a solid base and is constructed in several parts (structure, five drawers, and marble top), making it easy to transport and install. The wood shows slight age-related wear, consistent with its era, adding to its authentic character. The piece has been treated against woodworm and remains structurally sound.
