Pair of pastel portraits

Charming pair of portraits representing a bourgeois couple from the early 19th century. The gentleman, dressed in a blue coat with a wide collar and a white cravat, is captured from the waist up against a delicately sketched landscape background. His wife, wearing a bonnet adorned with ribbons and foliage, is dressed in a light empire-style gown with a high waist. Antique frames in blackened wood with pearl and gold fillet decoration, period framing. Pastels in generally good condition, with some slight signs of wear on the frame (small losses, wear to the black border).
