Small bench directoire period, end of the reign of louis XVI. Beautiful tapestry in patterned silk for the seat and plain blue silk for the back of the bench. Very good condition. Grey, blue white. The solid wood painted in blue/gray harmonizes perfectly with the silk cladding. Carved and molded wood with plants, referring to the empire style. Baluster-shaped legs nice little bench with ideal dimensions. Nice work and representative of the period of the directory. The directory is a style of french furniture of the late eighteenth century. It is closer to the empire style, which succeeded it, than to the louis XVI style that preceded it. It covers the period including the very end of the reign of louis xvi, the revolution, the convention (1792-1795), the directory (1795-1799) and the beginning of the consulate. The neo-classical style of the directory is inspired by the classical repertoire of antiquity, the egyptian, etruscan and pompeian civilizations.
