Important Savonnerie tapestry – CNA – India – around 1960 – 350

Important Savonnerie-style carpet, attributed to CNA production in India, circa 1950–1960. Hand-knotted carpet, made of wool pile on cotton foundations, featuring a rich decoration in the French Savonnerie style of the 17th and 18th centuries, within the Louis XIV – Louis XV repertoire. The black field is adorned with scrolls, volutes, acanthus leaves, foliage, and floral garlands in tones of gold, pink, green, ivory, and grey. A significant floral medallion occupies the centre of the composition. Dimensions: 350 × 250 cm — 8.75 m². The carpet was acquired in Paris from Les Tapis Vidal in 1967. It is accompanied by documentation including a purchase invoice and an original Vidal certificate dated 25 September 1967, signed by Henri Vidal, Chairman and CEO, stating that the carpets were "entirely hand-executed." A professional conservation/restoration intervention is also documented in 2025. The designation "Savonneries Versailles" appearing on the Vidal document is retained as the historical commercial name from 1967. The carpet is presented as a French Savonnerie-style carpet and not as a product of the Manufacture nationale de la Savonnerie.
