KURT ØSTERVIG "Surfboard" COFFEE TABLE Unit: 1 - price Material: Teak Manufacturer: Bears its metal manufacturer label "CFC Silkeborg Made in Denmark" Dimensions: Height 44 cm - Length 171 cm - Depth 60 cm there is a scratch on the top Kurt Østervig is a Danish designer born in 1912. He is first a naval architect, which is noted in his fluid lines and sensuality. He branched out into furniture design when he collaborated in particular with the E. Pedersen & Søn workshop. He is today recognized for his work with wood, particularly oak, teak and rosewood. This coffee table from the 50s is one of his iconic tables. It is called “Surfboard” or “Elliptical” or “boomerang”. Why this name. Its elliptical shape of course resembles a surfboard. It also reminds us of the hull of a boat or the silhouette of a floating pontoon. To continue with the boat theme, it is made of teak or rosewood, with a solid wood base (often oak or beech) which provides contrast with the top. Its legs are slightly inclined, in a “V” shape. It was never produced on a large scale or industrially unlike other Danish designers of the same period. This original vintage piece is stamped under the top: “CFC Silkeborg Made in Denmark” # KurtØstervig #scandinaviandesign #danishdesign #CFC #madeindanemark #modernism #minimalism #functionalism #postmodern #design #designaddict #interiordesign #furnituredesign #danishdesign #danishdesign #furnituredesign #moderndesign #housedesign #homedesign #designlover #vintage #decoration #architecture #photography #bikinigallery.
