Expressionist figurative work by lucien staquet, a belgian painter, depicting an immersive scene of a fishing trawler in port, laden with freshly caught fish. This dynamic composition combines realism and emotion through diagonal lines, vibrant colours and meticulous attention to detail. Staquet's expressionist figurative style captures the authenticity and harshness of maritime life, while offering a personal and poetic interpretation of the scene. With frame: 72 X 82 X 2 cm. Without frame: 70 X 80 cm. Weight: 1.5 kg. Lucien staquet (1911, hal – 1989, mons) was a self-taught belgian painter known for his seascapes, landscapes and lively scenes. He moved to mons in 1938, where he began his apprenticeship with the painter marius carion in 1941. This period had a profound influence on his style, marked by a balance between realism and expressionism. Staquet specialises in depicting landscapes of the mons region, peaceful rivers, snowy scenes and seascapes. His work, figurative and colourful, often depicts workers, travellers or children, capturing moments of daily life with great humanity. His compositions, sometimes compared to flemish scenes of the past, demonstrate his attachment to tradition while integrating a modern sensibility. From 1942, he exhibited with the cercle “bon vouloir” in mons and participated in various exhibitions in belgium and france. Some of his works are in public collections, notably at the musée de mons. Lucien staquet remains a figure of 20th-century belgian painting, combining technical mastery and emotional depth in his depictions of the life and landscapes of his time. Good general condition. Upper crosspiece slightly warped. Frame with signs of wear. Superb oil on canvas by lucien staquet, ideal for lovers of belgian art and maritime scenes.
