This Mid-Century table lamp by Heinz-Josef Ohm for Glashütte Limburg is amongst the few German lamp designs from the late 1970s to have received the iF Design Award. Model 6193, available here as a pair, was produced from 1978 onwards. The glass base is crafted from frosted opal glass in a bulbous bottle form, with a tapered neck and an internal light source. Constructed with three flames: the glass body is illuminated from within by one light source, whilst two further light sources sit beneath the fabric pagode shade. This separation allows for two different lighting moods. The frosted opal glass diffuses light evenly without harsh contrasts. At a total height of 70.5 cm including the shade, the opal glass table lamp fits comfortably on chests of drawers, sideboards and side tables. As a pair, both lamps create a symmetrical arrangement that works equally well in a bedroom or living room. The Glashütte Limburg table lamp stands for a design language that prioritises material quality and functionality. The design was honoured in 1978 with the iF Design Award, which attests to its standing within postwar German design history.
