Ceramic vase produced by the Swedish manufacturer Upsala-Ekeby and designed by the Japanese designer Hyonsun Rhee. Hyonsun Rhee (1938-) is a designer trained at the Kyoto City University of Arts. He was invited as a resident artist at Upsala-Ekeby from 1962 to 1965, during which he developed characteristic clean forms and textured surfaces, blending Asian influences with Scandinavian aesthetics. Founded in the 19th century, Upsala-Ekeby is one of the major manufacturers of Swedish ceramics in the 20th century, known for its collaborations with international designers and the quality of its modernist productions. This vase model 5044 perfectly illustrates this period: • slender silhouette with a narrow neck. • cylindrical base adorned with an organic relief decoration. • variegated mustard brown glaze, typical of the 1960s. ✔ Impressed markings under the base: UE Sweden 5044 and signature Hyonsun Rhee. ✔ Production: Sweden, 1960s. ✔ Material: glazed ceramic. Condition: very good vintage condition, slight signs of use consistent with age, no chips or losses. Dimensions: 18 cm X 9 cm X 9 cm. Neck opening: 3.5 cm. Weight: 470 g. A magnificent piece representative of 1960s Scandinavian design, both understated and textured, easy to integrate into a contemporary interior or collection.
