REMILANDOU (20th century), School of Poto-Poto Brazzaville. This school of painters was founded in the Poto-Poto district of Brazzaville by Pierre Lods in 1951. The recognition of the school quickly transcended the borders of Congo, with a first collective exhibition in 1952 at the Palmes gallery in Paris. The culmination occurred in 1955-1956 during the exhibition at MoMA in New York. It was confirmed in 1958 when Lods sent several members to represent the School of Poto-Poto at the Brussels World Expo. Today, the second generation of painters from the School of Poto-Poto carries on its legacy, oscillating between African tradition and universal modernity. Their works still bear the initials PPP (Painter of Poto-Poto).
