A large, monumental Art Nouveau Secessionist style chandelier from the luxurious Hotel Imperial on Vienna's Ringstrasse (see the information about the hotel below). In 1994, during an extensive renovation (in fact a return of the palace to its original state), the chandelier was specially designed and custom made for the Imperial by the renowned Viennese chandelier and lamp manufacturer E. Bakalowits Söhne. In the style of the geometric Jugendstil of the Wiener Werkstätte. The chandelier consists of an elaborate metal construction with an antique gold finish, in which the glass elements are set. They have cut edges and a frosted center. The rod with the sphere is made of brass. The lower part has 9 light sockets, and 8 more sockets on the top work as an uplight for the ceiling. A mirror-polished plate in the lower part reflects the light additionally. The chandelier is in good condition, the metal shows some patina in places, less on the chandelier itself than on the rod. It will be rewired to the standard of your region and delivered professionally packed in a customized wooden crate. The design of this magnificent Bakalowits Sohne chandelier combines elements of the Viennese Jugendstil, early Viennese Modernism and the architectural functionalism of Adolf Loos and Josef Hoffmann. Diameter: 47", total drop height: 55" Provenance: The Hotel Imperial on Vienna's Ringstrasse. Some say it is one of the 10 best hotels in the world, and in 2024 Elle Décor named it one of the "25 Most Iconic Hotels On Earth". La Liste gives the hotel 93 points, and it holds two Michelin Keys. It was built in 1863 as a private palace for Duke Philipp of Württemberg and became a hotel in 1873 for the World Exhibition in Vienna. It was one of the very first palace hotels in Vienna.
