Set of four Thonet 676 PF armchairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh

A powerful, architectural set of four armchairs by Thonet, model 676 PF, designed by the Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The chairs are made of black lacquered beech and date from the 1990s. The tall, slightly curved backrests have a wide central splat with three rectangular openings: the geometric detail that gives the chairs their recognisable Mackintosh look. The seats are upholstered in a dark blue fabric with a subtle ochre dot pattern, which contrasts beautifully with the black wood. With their tall backs, straight armrests and generous size, the chairs have far more presence than a standard dining chair. They bear Thonet labels and factory markings with model number 676 PF. Good vintage condition, sturdy and stable. The black lacquer shows signs of use, including small scratches, wear to the edges, small marks and local touch-ups. The upholstery is tidy and usable.
