Mahogany glass-fronted bookcase THE GLOBE WERNICKE LONDON 1900, a piece of furniture

This magnificent English glass-fronted bookcase dates from the 1900s. It is a superb piece of furniture from the Globe Wernicke firm in London, which furnished bookstores, libraries, and offices throughout England. This firm, "The Globe Wernicke Co. Ltd," was founded in 1893 in the United States and created "elastic bookcases," the first modular bookcases, also known as "barristers bookcases" for use by lawyers. This model is marked "The Globe Wernicke Co. Ltd - Office & Library Furnisher LONDON." This bookcase has a great deal of character, adorned with metalwork on its sides and sliding glass doors that lift and slide into the interior. This display cabinet is modular: composed of three mahogany modules, it comes with a base and a molded cornice top for a finished look. Dimensions: 81.5 cm high x 26.5 cm deep x 86.5 cm wide.
