This oil on cardboard by jean-denis malclès represents a landscape of provence, he bears a dedication on the back "to simone very friendly landscape of provence work of youth a long time ago". Jean-denis malclès was a french painter, poster artist and decorator (1912-2002). We owe him in particular the creation of the costume of the jacques brothers and several movie or theater posters including that of beauty and the beast by jean cocteau. From 1948 to 1981, he created the sets and costumes for most of jean anouilh's plays, establishing a real osmosis with the author who recognized in him the decorator capable of "traveling to the land of his own dreams and restoring them to him". He also worked for the compagnie renaud-barrault, which led jean-louis barrault to say: "jean-denis malclès is more than an illustrator; much more than a painter: he integrates himself into the room, conceives its movement and the spirit, in a word, forgets itself. He is first and foremost, a director." This oil on cardboard is in its juice, nature, note wear and friction, scratches, gaps in places. The colors remained vivid.
