Description

Isamu Kenmochi graduated from the Tokyo College of Industrial Arts in 1932. Like other first-generation Japanese industrial designers, Knmochi also became a member of the Industrial Arts Institute (IAI). Famous for his desire to combine traditional materials with new technologies, Isamu Kenmochi has been awarded major projects such as the Japanese pavilion at Expo 58 in Brussels, where he collaborated with architect Kunio Maekawa to win a gold medal. Isamu Kenmochi will leave a lasting mark on the history of Japanese and Western design, with his organic lines embracing the body and his commitment to developing what he called "modern Japanese furniture".
