"Space Age" Table Lamp in Chromed Metal, Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994)

The lamp rests on a mirror-chromed metal base, with six chrome-plated metal spikes topped with bronze around a central stem, giving the lamp a very elegant silhouette. It is fitted with its original lampshade (some signs of wear – see photos). A typical Sciolari design from the 1970s-1980s, this lamp is in excellent condition with particularly well-preserved chrome surfaces. The original wiring has been checked. Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) was a designer and architect born in Italy in 1927. After graduating from architecture school, the young man returned to his first passion, cinema, and in particular filmmaking. However, after his father's death in 1949, Sciolari had no choice but to take over the family lighting manufacturing business. In just a few years, the designer transformed the company and propelled it onto the international stage. Sciolari was also a creative, prolific, and talented designer. He worked for major design houses such as Stilnovo in Italy in the 1950s, Boulanger, and Stilkronen. Throughout his career, he designed magnificent and incredible lighting fixtures, including the “Mod A5011” pendant lamp (circa 1950), the “4079” floor lamp (1965), and, of course, the Cubic chandelier (1970s). His creations, crafted from both polished and matte metal, feature multiple light sources, evoking futuristic visions of the nascent space age. In the 1970s and 80s, his designs were in high demand. The Sciolari company became the leading Italian lighting retailer in the United States (products imported by America by Lightolier & Progress Lighting). During this same period, his creations featured prominently in popular television and film due to their luxurious and futuristic appearance (Sciolari's designs were even seen in the famous series Dallas!). Gaetano Sciolari died in 1994.
