Genuine traditional Awalé originating from West Africa with natural wear in the cavities, irregular holes hand-carved, and visible micro-cracks. Beautiful wood patina with a slightly satin and polished surface in a uniform warm brown hue. The squares are separated lengthwise by the carving of two elongated figures with simple proportions. The sculpture was made from solid wood, without industrial finishing and by hand. It is indeed a piece of popular art made locally. Its central sculpture was certainly intended for important players of local prestige. Likely dated to the mid-20th century. This game is strategic, educational, and social as it is often used outdoors or with family. A beautiful object that is both playful and decorative, typical of African culture.
