Type14D stool is crafted from high-quality beech wood that has undergone a steaming process, which effectively relaxes the wood’s internal structure. The most distinctive feature of the design is the three legs with their organic, undulating shape, the outer surface of which has been finished with intricate chiselling reminiscent of fish scales or raw tree bark. The construction is based on an extremely precise Japanese system of joining three elements flat, known as Sankaku-Tsugi, which has been used both in the upper part of the frame supporting the round seat and in the lower crosspiece stabilising the legs. The stool’s seat has a subtly concave profile, which, combined with the satin finish of the wood, ensures comfort of use and emphasises the piece’s modern yet primal character. The whole piece is a perfect example of the fusion of traditional joinery techniques with sculptural form, where every detail – from the raw marks of the tools to the geometric precision of the joints – testifies to the highest craftsmanship.
