Stunning sculpture from the Art Nouveau period (late 19th - early 20th century) in art bronze. This small ashtray or paperweight for a study adopts the shape of a stylised scallop shell in which a young sleeping child rests, an allegorical subject of great delicacy. The piece is signed "Noël-Ruffier" on the upper side, the signature of Léon Noël-Ruffier, a French sculptor known for his poetic works and representations of children. The chiselling work on the hair and the position of the body is remarkable. The bronze retains its original golden patina with beautiful dark nuances in the recesses. An ideal collector's piece to place on a desk or in a curiosity cabinet. Material: Art bronze. Style: Art Nouveau / Belle Époque. Period: Circa 1900. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Original patina respected, no chips or deformation. Dimensions: 13 cm.
