Magic trick vases • Turned boxwood • Napoleon III

Pair of magic vases made of turned and finely polished boxwood, typical of the late 19th century. Extremely decorative, they will look splendid in a cabinet of curiosities… These objects consist of 2 bases, 2 hats (topped with small black lacquered buttons that are removable) – all made of boxwood – and 2 wooden balls (light wood and black wood). I do not know how this magic trick works but have noticed that the balls are not completely round but very slightly oblong, and when you turn the ball in the hat, it can settle there and not fall out. These are unique pieces resulting from high-quality craftsmanship and as such, they are not identical (one of the vases is more tilted). They are in very good condition considering their great age; however, one of the feet is slightly cracked. Please take a good look at the photos which are part of the description. Dimensions: H. 11.5 X Ø4 cm approximately. *** Careful shipping or hand delivery possible in Paris 20th. For international shipping not offered, please contact me.
