Giant kilim floor cushion, complete 90x46x25 cm kilim floor cushion bolster 2560

This large floor cushion is made from a vintage handwoven Turkish grain sack (known as a çuval). These sacks were woven by nomadic families in Anatolia to store and carry grain and household goods, and each one was decorated by hand — no two are ever alike. The front and back were woven together as one continuous piece on the loom, so this isn't a cushion cover stitched from offcuts — it's the original sack, kept whole. The front is richly embroidered with traditional diamond and star motifs in vibrant pinks, greens, blues, oranges and yellows on a deep madder-red ground, finished with striped bands at each end. The back shows the sack's plainwoven side in soft stripes of sage green, mushroom, honey, indigo and pink — lovely enough that you could just as easily display it back-side up for a more muted look. Generously filled with mixed fibres so it holds its shape as a proper floor cushion, and closed by hand. Perfect as extra seating, a window seat pad, a large lumbar cushion on a bench or sofa, or simply as a beautiful object in its own right. Very good vintage condition with small signs of age and honest wear, including one or two old hand repairs, adding to its character and authenticity.
