Vintage ufo pendant lamp, rotaflex, with adjustable cord, circa 50's/60's. The piece is made of ribbed rotaflex (cellulose acetate), white and yellow, and is called "rotaflex n°9" (france). The first rotaflex lamps were manufactured in france from 1952 by charron and disderot, on designs by andré simard and rené-jean caillette. Then, pierre guariche, joseph-andré motte and michel mortier designed many lamps during their short-lived collaboration known as the atelier de recherches plastiques (arp), from 1954 to 1957. The arp lamps were manufactured and sold by disderot, and distributed by airborne, minvielle, steiner and luminalite. The name 'rotaflex' has been used by other companies, either using the manufacturing process or distributing british rotaflex lamps in their respective countries. The lamp is in good overall, original and vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age and previous use consistent with time, and the patina of age and time. Some light colour fading throughout the frame, ceiling fitting and cord (see photos). Please note: one image shows where the two edges of the lamp trim meet at the bottom. This is not a split or crack. The adjustable cord appears to have been replaced at some point and is not original. The maximum height/length of the lamp is approximately 63cm. The lamp is fully functional (see photos), with a b22 bayonet bulb (not included). There is an adjustable hook to mount the lamp, and just below the ceiling bracket there is an opening. Just below the ceiling mount there is a small plastic ring to make the ceiling mount flush (see photos). Photos were taken in natural light, outdoors and indoors, so colors may vary slightly. Depending on the light.
