Magnificent and authentic wall panel in bas-relief made of solid wood from Yoruba tribal art, originating from the historic city of Oyo in Nigeria. This unique piece, with great expressive strength, was entirely handcrafted in the 20th century at the famous Odekunle family workshop. The lineage of these master sculptors is closely linked to the renowned Fakeye dynasty, internationally recognized, with works listed in the most prestigious museums around the world. The artwork depicts a lively traditional cultural scene featuring three traditional characters (musicians and dignitaries) sculpted with the rigor and geometric details typical of Yoruba craftsmanship. The hatched textures, complex headdresses, and characteristic proportions give this bas-relief a remarkable sculptural presence. Piece characteristics: Origin: Oyo, Nigeria (West Africa). Workshop / Signature: Signed in relief on the back by the master: ODEKUNLE ARTS OYO. Material: Heavy exotic solid wood with a warm brown patina and visible grain. Condition: Overall beautiful vintage condition with a superb period luster. Note that, as per the detailed photographs, a small piece of wood is chipped on the lower edge of the sculpture. This slight wear, a testament to its history, does not alter the readability or overall aesthetic of the sculpted scene on the front. Hanging: Original wall mounting notch carved on the back. An ethnographic artwork of superb craftsmanship, ideal for discerning collectors of African art, primitive art, or to enhance an interior with eclectic, ethnic, or bohemian chic decor.
