3-seater sofa W.H. Gispen for Dutch Originals, black leather and chrome

Three-seater sofa based on an original design by Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890–1981), one of the pioneers of Dutch modernism and tubular steel furniture. Produced by Dutch Originals — B.V. Gebroeders van der Stroom in Asperen, Netherlands, furniture manufacturers since 1791 — under licence from Gispen International, as confirmed by the original label under the sofa. Deep and generous seating, soft black leather seat and back cushions, in a clean body with square armrests, framed by a bright chrome tubular steel structure that surrounds each armrest and curves down to form Gispen's characteristic looped feet. A strong piece of Dutch design inspired by Bauhaus, both architectural and very comfortable. In good condition. The leather of the seat and back cushions has softened with use and shows natural creases and a patina, with some light surface marks. The chrome structure is bright and in very good condition. The black fabric underneath has a small scratch line, not visible in use. Structurally solid and stable. Height: 86 cm. Seat height: 48 cm. Depth: 89 cm. Length: 218 cm.
